Miami 2016 Photo Diary

They say April showers bring May flowers but so far all April has brought Toronto are last gasps of winter in the form of blizzards. These inches of snow, cold winds, and slushy streets have me reminiscing on my quick trip to Miami a few weeks ago.

I covered a bit of my trip on Instagram when I shared my experiences exploring:

the luxurious Design District with every high-end fashion retailer you can imagine from Fendi to Margiela, to Dior,

the Institute of Contemporary Art where I got a one-on-one tour of their exhibit by artist John Miller,

the breathtaking sculptural work of Damien Hirst and fine dining in South Beach, and of course

the Dash Miami storefront because basically, YOLO.

And even after all that, I still had a few more adventures I had to get into in my few days there…

All White

As February draws to a close I can’t help but notice the days getting warmer and longer. I’m starting to feel both my wardrobe and I slowly draw out of hibernation and I’m so excited to feel the sun’s rays on my skin.

Spring is that time to shed your layers and embrace bare skin. There’s something about an all white look that just feels so godly fresh and I love that. I love the modern, bohemian style of this look from Zara. The volume on the top is complimented by the wide legged pants culminating in a loose, relaxed silhouette.

Take a cue from the photo set below and rediscover a natural, clean aesthetic. Breathe in the fresh air. Find new paths.

Love,

Mirian

Surviving the Holidaze Pt 4

Wow, can you believe it’s the end of 2015 already? WE MADE IT! This is one of the first years in my life that really felt as if it went by quickly. (I think it’s partially due to meeting and growing together with my blog partner who helps me keep the gears of this lil machine turning LOL.) This year has been far from perfect. I’ve had setbacks. I’ve had plot twists. I’ve changed paths and entered new lanes. Old relationships fizzled out and new ones blossomed.

I’ve had various blogs in the past but I’ve never been as serious about blogging as I am now and I really owe a HUGE thank you to you guys for keeping me focused over these past three months. You may not know this but when you guys come by regularly, hit the like button on my posts, start following me, or leave a comment, it inspires me to keep going. I don’t wanna get mushy but you guys really have touched me. All of you. From Canada to Costa Rica. South Africa to Spain. Thailand to Trinidad & Tobago. Continue reading Surviving the Holidaze Pt 4

Surviving the Holidaze Pt 1

This time of year can be so crazy! Holiday parties at work and family festivities galore. This is the season for socializing and we all wanna look our best but the last thing anyone wants is to be stuck in the mall looking for a cute outfit among herds of other shoppers. Don’t worry, boo. I got you. I’ve put together a four part series to help you slay the holidays. The best part about it is you can get each look from just one store so you can get in, get out, and get back to what matters…

Do you have an outgoing, energetic personality? Have you ever danced on a tabletop? Does your hotline stay blinging? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions then this look is for you.

Fall/Winter Wardrobe Palette for Fair Skin

Wine. Mustard. Terracotta. Olive. These are the official colors of the fall season. These deep hues look amazing on medium to dark skin with warm undertones from bronzed tawny complexions to caramel and the darkest chocolate shades. If you fall into that description these are the colors that accent you best and when autumn arrives and everything on the retail market is coming out in this spectrum, this is your time to shine.

If you’re like me though, very fair in complexion, even my warm undertone can’t make this palette look good on me. I’m actually the fairest of them all and Snow White jacked my steez. I’m more suited to the spring palette and these colors make me look pale and sickly. This is part of the reason why I don’t really like fall because aside form the fact that it’s getting colder and I’m dreading winter, all of the cute clothes that come out look bad on me. *Cringe*

Luckily I’ve found a solution. Continue reading Fall/Winter Wardrobe Palette for Fair Skin

Find Your Tribe

A few days ago I submitted my photos to be featured on one of my favorite fashion web sites, Fashion Bomb Daily. Less than two hours later the owner, Claire Sulmers, emailed me back to let me know she had chosen me to be that day’s “Bombshell of the Day“. Imagine my total excitement of seeing my photos on a site I really admire with a very kind write up by the owner herself.

But alas, even the sweetest moments can sometimes be tempered with a little tartness. Along with all the positive sentiments from her readers regarding my style also came a few insults too. Everything from skinny-shaming to personal jabs and of course your average “OMG, she can’t dress!” rant. The Shade!?!?

Get Lost With Me: Why Fashion is a Great Escape

As I’m sure you’ve heard by now last Friday, the 13th, really did live up to the day’s notably negative reputation. Tragedies in Paris, Beirut, Baghdad, and Japan had us all collectively reeling in disbelief.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I tend to be pretty emotionally sensitive to hearing about sad current events happening around the world. Living in such a connected era within minutes we hear about everything that’s going on around the globe, good and bad, and sometimes that can be overwhelming for me.

Free and Wild in Moschino

Are you ready for some life inspiration to go along with this requisite fashion inspiration I’m about to slay you with? Keep reading, I have some honest and wise words for you…

Yesterday I received a token of sound advice from the last person I would expect to. Yes, a former boy band member dropped some knowledge on life and it was so poignant to where I am in my journey right now that I felt like I should share it with you guys for anyone else dealing with similar growing pains.

Lemon Drop: Injecting Neon into Your Look

What excites you? For me that’s many things. Fashion of course, music, art, history, photography, my long term love affair with the Internet. Flaming hot Cheetos, the Love and Hip Hop franchise (Shenellica Bettencourt is my spirit animal), Tumblr, Skittles (all flavors, I ain’t got no type).

What drives you? For me it’s the desire to make an impact. Connect with people. Empower people. Leave a legacy. Be a unique voice that represents myself and others like me. Wanting more than a “normal” life with a “regular” job. The desire to make a little noise and shake things up on a big scale.
