Life 101: An Open Letter to My High School Self

Every year around this time a new class of students completes their current level of education and must decide if they will advance to a higher level or enter “the real world”. I was 17-years-old when I graduated from the charter arts high school I had been attending in Michigan. I had been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design’s Fashion program with a scholarship and was so excited to be beginning this new chapter all on my own.

That was years ago. I am very different from the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, out-of-state pupil I started out as. If I had to go back and do it again, there are definitely things I would change and some I wouldn’t. But since I can’t, hopefully this open letter to my former self will be of help to those now in the same shoes I once wore.

Day 1 of Toronto Fashion Week SS16

Yesterday was Day 1 of the Spring/Summer 2016 season of Toronto Fashion Week (also known as World MasterCard Fashion Week) and I was happy to kick it off by seeing two of the runway shows that night, Matthew Gallagher and Sid Neigum. Both are highly praised as the next emerging voices in Canadian fashion with Gallagher’s aesthetic being soft, sweet, and feminine while Neigum’s is dark, powerful, and architectural. Toronto International Film Festival 2015

Every year around this time Toronto hosts many big-name celebs and rising stars alike for the annual Toronto International Film Festival. Many movies make their premieres with there being over 300 screenings from more than 60 countries. Outside of the box office, the city is full of star-studded, red carpet events. This year TIFF is running from September 10th – 20th. While I don’t think I’ll be catching a movie this year, I did have the chance to attend one of the hottest, most talked-about parties of the season.
