Every year around this time a new class of students completes their current level of education and must decide if they will advance to a higher level or enter “the real world”. I was 17-years-old when I graduated from the charter arts high school I had been attending in Michigan. I had been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design’s Fashion program with a scholarship and was so excited to be beginning this new chapter all on my own.
That was years ago. I am very different from the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, out-of-state pupil I started out as. If I had to go back and do it again, there are definitely things I would change and some I wouldn’t. But since I can’t, hopefully this open letter to my former self will be of help to those now in the same shoes I once wore.

As I’m sure you’ve heard by now last Friday, the 13th, really did live up to the day’s notably negative reputation. Tragedies in Paris, Beirut, Baghdad, and Japan had us all collectively reeling in disbelief.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I tend to be pretty emotionally sensitive to hearing about sad current events happening around the world. Living in such a connected era within minutes we hear about everything that’s going on around the globe, good and bad, and sometimes that can be overwhelming for me.

Yesterday was Day 1 of the Spring/Summer 2016 season of Toronto Fashion Week (also known as World MasterCard Fashion Week) and I was happy to kick it off by seeing two of the runway shows that night, Matthew Gallagher and Sid Neigum. Both are highly praised as the next emerging voices in Canadian fashion with Gallagher’s aesthetic being soft, sweet, and feminine while Neigum’s is dark, powerful, and architectural. It’s been raining for about two days straight here in Toronto. The wind is getting cooler and I wore my Timbs for the first time since winter yesterday. Everyone around me is getting that requisite cold you get when the seasons start changing. It’s safe to say summer has breathed its last breath and fall is here. Realizing that cold temperatures are coming saddens me a bit as I love the warmer months and winters here are so brutal so I thought now would be the perfect time to daydream a little and post my last summer-themed outfit set.
