Fall/Winter Wardrobe Palette for Fair Skin

Wine. Mustard. Terracotta. Olive. These are the official colors of the fall season. These deep hues look amazing on medium to dark skin with warm undertones from bronzed tawny complexions to caramel and the darkest chocolate shades. If you fall into that description these are the colors that accent you best and when autumn arrives and everything on the retail market is coming out in this spectrum, this is your time to shine.

If you’re like me though, very fair in complexion, even my warm undertone can’t make this palette look good on me. I’m actually the fairest of them all and Snow White jacked my steez. I’m more suited to the spring palette and these colors make me look pale and sickly. This is part of the reason why I don’t really like fall because aside form the fact that it’s getting colder and I’m dreading winter, all of the cute clothes that come out look bad on me. *Cringe*

Luckily I’ve found a solution. Continue reading Fall/Winter Wardrobe Palette for Fair Skin

Find Your Tribe

A few days ago I submitted my photos to be featured on one of my favorite fashion web sites, Fashion Bomb Daily. Less than two hours later the owner, Claire Sulmers, emailed me back to let me know she had chosen me to be that day’s “Bombshell of the Day“. Imagine my total excitement of seeing my photos on a site I really admire with a very kind write up by the owner herself.

But alas, even the sweetest moments can sometimes be tempered with a little tartness. Along with all the positive sentiments from her readers regarding my style also came a few insults too. Everything from skinny-shaming to personal jabs and of course your average “OMG, she can’t dress!” rant. The Shade!?!?

Lemon Drop: Injecting Neon into Your Look

What excites you? For me that’s many things. Fashion of course, music, art, history, photography, my long term love affair with the Internet. Flaming hot Cheetos, the Love and Hip Hop franchise (Shenellica Bettencourt is my spirit animal), Tumblr, Skittles (all flavors, I ain’t got no type).

What drives you? For me it’s the desire to make an impact. Connect with people. Empower people. Leave a legacy. Be a unique voice that represents myself and others like me. Wanting more than a “normal” life with a “regular” job. The desire to make a little noise and shake things up on a big scale.

Warm and Fuzzy

For this look I wanted to keep playing with the idea of monochromatic dressing and also incorporate some elements of texture. I picked this buttery almond hue and brought the look together with a chunky knit sweater contrasted by a sexy, sleek leather pant. Again I completed the look with my white pumps because I liked a dash of white in the palette. If you’re doing some tone-on-tone dressing and aren’t sure what shoes to pair with your clothes, consider a nude hue that matches your skin tone or a splash of black or white depending on what comes together best. This look has a bit more dimension than the last one with the mix of two textures and a bit more variation in the colors. My partner found the perfect rocky, mountain-esque structure downtown that was the prefect backdrop for this look.

50 Shades of Grey

Just kidding, this is actually just about one shade of grey. A cool heather grey that I wanted to play with wearing nearly head to toe. Monochromatic dressing, also known as tone-on-tone dressing, is a trend that’s name describes exactly how to execute it. It’s all about picking one color and wearing it head to toe or as close to that as you can come. You can pick one hue and select various tints and shades of it or you can do like I did in this outfit series below and color match it all. Pantone would be so proud. One of the biggest celebrity devotees of monochromatic dressing that I’ve seen display strong examples of it is Kim Kardashian. She is well known for having a penchant for head to toe neutrals like taupe, navy, olive, and cream. I think an easy way to wear this trend without having to shop around too much would be to look for a cute coordinate set sold by fast fashion retailers like Missguided.

Le Sport

I love a look that’s a little bit athletic casual and a little bit chic. Some of my favorite looks have come out of combining those two styles. While Toronto transitions from summer into fall I’m exploring how to make that transition in style. I love this comfy sweater that is warm yet cropped and with a more open knit so you won’t overheat in it. Paired with blush shorts and a white sneaker it’s perfect for this in-between time.
