Surviving the Holidaze Pt 4

Wow, can you believe it’s the end of 2015 already? WE MADE IT! This is one of the first years in my life that really felt as if it went by quickly. (I think it’s partially due to meeting and growing together with my blog partner who helps me keep the gears of this lil machine turning LOL.) This year has been far from perfect. I’ve had setbacks. I’ve had plot twists. I’ve changed paths and entered new lanes. Old relationships fizzled out and new ones blossomed.

I’ve had various blogs in the past but I’ve never been as serious about blogging as I am now and I really owe a HUGE thank you to you guys for keeping me focused over these past three months. You may not know this but when you guys come by regularly, hit the like button on my posts, start following me, or leave a comment, it inspires me to keep going. I don’t wanna get mushy but you guys really have touched me. All of you. From Canada to Costa Rica. South Africa to Spain. Thailand to Trinidad & Tobago. Continue reading Surviving the Holidaze Pt 4

Fall/Winter Wardrobe Palette for Fair Skin

Wine. Mustard. Terracotta. Olive. These are the official colors of the fall season. These deep hues look amazing on medium to dark skin with warm undertones from bronzed tawny complexions to caramel and the darkest chocolate shades. If you fall into that description these are the colors that accent you best and when autumn arrives and everything on the retail market is coming out in this spectrum, this is your time to shine.

If you’re like me though, very fair in complexion, even my warm undertone can’t make this palette look good on me. I’m actually the fairest of them all and Snow White jacked my steez. I’m more suited to the spring palette and these colors make me look pale and sickly. This is part of the reason why I don’t really like fall because aside form the fact that it’s getting colder and I’m dreading winter, all of the cute clothes that come out look bad on me. *Cringe*

Luckily I’ve found a solution. Continue reading Fall/Winter Wardrobe Palette for Fair Skin

Seeing Things Differently: New Views on Wearing Fashion

In terms of personal style, one of the most limiting things you can do is simply wear fashion items as they are originally intended to be worn. Huh? Did I just tell you to wear a skirt across your torso like a tube top? Yeah, sure, if it looks good.

When I was younger I used to be obsessed with t-shirt reconstruction. It’s all about taking plain, regular tees and transforming them into cool dresses, leggings, and everything else you can image. Back then I used to frequent a blogging platform called LiveJournal and there were tons of communities on the topic that I read daily.

That helped me to see that garments are really just pieces of fabric that you can use as you wish. The way it is while hanging in your closet right now doesn’t have to be its final form. And just because an item is made to be worn one way doesn’t mean that has to be the only way.

5 Swimwear Brands to Make a Splash in at Art Basel

Suns out, buns out! Today marks Day 2 of Art Basel in Miami Beach and from what I’ve seen so far, I’m super jealous I’m not there, LOL. Most everyone who’s anyone in art, fashion, music, and culture is down in the 305 right now taking in the visual feast the city has to offer. Spanning 267 galleries, veterans and emerging talents in modern and contemporary art are showcasing their best sculptures, films, paintings, installations, and more. In addition to all of that, the city’s usually popping nightlife scene is heading into overdrive with the influx of A-list celebs that always come through for the festivities.

In honor is this awesome event running from December 3rd-6th I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite swimwear brands that if I were there, I would love to be wearing. In no particular order, these 5 brands embody the fun and adventurous attitude of Art Basel and I hope that by checking them out, you too get a little taste of what’s probably going down under the hot Miami sun. Slap on some SPF and get ready to sizzle… Continue reading 5 Swimwear Brands to Make a Splash in at Art Basel

What A Time To Be Mary Young

I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that back when Drake and Future named their joint mixtape they were on Mary Young‘s web site anticipating her now released Fall 2015 collection. And rightfully so. With cosigns from Refinery 29, Teen Vogue, and other major fashion media, Mary is steadily positioning herself as one to watch both locally in Toronto and abroad.

In the world of lifestyle lingerie, most brands are either hyper-feminine or super sporty, but Mary positions herself right in the middle of the two styles. A quick browse in her online store reveals cozy basics like triangle bralettes, high waist panties, skinny-cut sweats, and knits made from the softest bamboo fibers in light and neutral palettes. It’s lingerie meets loungewear. Loungerie ©, if you will.

“Design itself inspires me,” Mary says. Give her a well-curated space with white walls and rustic wood or metal elements and her creativity will flourish. An average day in her life can involve anything from sketching, pattern-drafting, and sewing samples to managing her e-commerce store, packing and shipping orders, attending industry events, or taking meetings like the one we are on now over coffee at one of her preferred spots, RSqaured Cafe on Queen Street West.
