Mary Katrantzou & Adidas Pt I

How many designers do you know of that have gone straight from finishing school to presenting their debut ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week? Mary Katrantzou did just that in during the Spring/Summer 2009 show season and since then has been steadily building her name as a digital print powerhouse in the fashion industry.

My first introduction to Katrantzou’s work was through her Fall/Winter 2012 collection. Her now famous typewriter dress had the internet buzzing on who this young designer was. Unbeknownst to us newbies who were just discovering her style, her impeccable execution of Trompe-l’œil was nothing new at all as she had been practicing this aesthetic since her Central Saint Martin’s days. What a perfect pairing it is now to see the graphic print guru teaming up with Adidas Originals for a sportswear capsule collection that is all at once high street, high tech, and high style.

For the first installment of my two-part series highlighting this fashion collaboration I packed up the collection’s floorlength dress to shoot. The design is a bit reminiscent of Islamic art so the perfect place to photograph it was the Aga Khan Museum, a center for Islamic and Iranian art and Muslim culture. Enjoy the set below and be sure to keep a lookout for part two where I take her trackpants and reversible varsity jacket for a spin.
